Yohan Blake won the men’s 100m at Sunday’s (18 Aug) Birmingham Diamond League.

Blake, the second-fastest in the field this season behind Akani Simbine of South Africa, edged Great Britain’s Adam Gemili. Both were credited with the same time, 10.07.

“It was good. It was coming. The weather wasn’t great, but I’m saving the big day for the World Championships and the Diamond League finals in Zurich,” said Blake.

“The time’s not bad under the circumstances. I can run faster than that,” added Blake, who said, “training has been good.”

Blake, the Jamaica Trials winner, got a reasonably good start and seemed to be in control up to the last 10 metres before Gemili came on strong towards the end.

Michael Rodgers of The USA finished third in 10.09.

Tyquendo Tracey, the other Jamaican in the final, finished sixth in 10.14. Canadian Andre de Grasse ended fifth in 10.13.
