Chantel Malone wins in Madrid

British Virgin Islands’ Chantel Malone reached the final in the women’s long jump for the first time in her career at the IAAF World Championships and came away in seventh place.

The six-time All-American while at Texas finally reached the final at worlds in her fourth appearance on this stage for the British Virgin Islands. During Wednesday’s qualifying round, she posted a leap of 6.52 meters to advance.

On Friday, Malone responded with a measurement of 6.57 meters in the final to finish in seventh place. She posted that mark on her third attempt to solidify her spot in the top eight and move on for three move jumps. Malone jumped consistently in the final with jumps of 6.52, 6.44, 6.57 and 6.52 meters to go with a pair of fouls.
