Hydel dominated proceedings at Saturday’s (18 Feb) Ben Francis Invitational meet held at Vere Technical High in Clarendon.

In the 100m, Hydel with Gabrielle Matthews, 12.37 and Dejona Simpson, 12.85, won classes 3 and 4, respectively.

Tamia Campbell of Edwin Allen, 12.00, and Britany Anderson of Vere, 12.17, were the classes 1 and 2 winners. Anderson also won the long jump with 5.79m.

Roneisha McGregor, 56.06, Charokee Young, 57.09, Garriel Whyte, 58.79 were Hydel winners in classes 1, 2 and 3 of the girls’ 400m.

Hydel also won all of the sprint hurdles. Trishauna Hemmings and Ray-Donna Lee won the classes 1 and 2 100m obstacle events in 13.86 and 14.13 respectively while Matthews took the 80m class 3 event in 11.83 and Najeeka Brown, the 70m final in 11.61.

Hydel won three of the girls’ 4x100m relays – Classes 1, 3 and 4 in 48.24, 51.07 and 50.25 respectively. Vere won Class 2 in 47.12.

Hemmings won the Class 1 girls’ long jump with 5.86m while her teammate Rhianna Phipps cleared 1.60m in the Class 2 high jump.

Devia Brown, also of Hydel, was a triple winner. She threw 13.47m, 45.90 for the top spots in the Class 1 girls’ shot put and discus. She also topped the discus open with 40.57m.

Natalia Scarlet leapt 4.83 metres to hand Hydel another victory this time in the Class 4 girls’ long jump.

On the boys’ side, host Vere stood tall in the sprints. Tasrico Bell ran 11.06 to win the Class 1 boys’ 100m and Jayval Wright, 12.37 in the Class 3 event.

Wright also won the 400m in 56.73.

Romane Lindo, also of Vere, topped the Class 1 boys’ 400m in 50.61, while Kimani Smith of Edwin Allen took the Class 2 400m in 53.66.

Ardenne won two of the 4x100m relays, 46.03 and 49.70 in classes 2 and 3 while Excelsior took Class 1 in 43.45.

Christiana High won the boys’ 4x400m open in 3:34.74
