Elaine Thompson ran a fast 10.71 seconds to win the women’s 100m at the Jamaica Invitational here on Saturday night
Thompson, who got a fairly good start, but trailed American English Gardner for the first 40 metres, dominated the final part of the race to take an easy win.
The time, however, will not be considered a world leading because it was done with the help of a +2.4m/s wind.
Gardner was second in 10.85 while Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago ended third in 10.98.
Jamaicans Jura Levy, 11.11, Christania Williams, 11.22 and Gayon Evans, 11.33 were fifth, seventh and eighth respectively.
In the men’s event, Kemar Bailey-Cole, finished very strong to win a very close race in 10.01, just ahead of American Mike Rodgers, 10.03.
Jamaican Julian Forte finished third in 10.06, Andrew Fisher, fourth in 10.07 and Tyson Gay, fifth in 10.08.
St. Kitts and Nevis’ Kim Collins, who led them from the blocks, was sixth in 10.09.
Oshane Bailey, the other Jamaican in the event, finished seventh in 10.13.
Americans Brianna Rollins, 12.52 and Queen Harrison, 12.54 took the top two spots in the women’s 100m hurdles ahead of Jamaica’s World champion, Danielle Williams, 12.55 (+2.9m/s wind).
Shermaine Williams, 13.16 and Kimberly Laing, 13.30 were sixth and seventh respectively while Megan Simmons did not finish.
American Jarred Eaton topped the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.45 ahead of Jamaican Deuce Carter 13.55 and Jeff Porter, also of the USA, 13.59.
