BEIRUT – Paula Radcliffe, the world record holder in the marathon, was among the special guests invited to take part in a Remembrance Day Ceremony in Beirut, Lebanon on Saturday (7 November).

Radcliffe, who visited the Lebanese capital as an Ambassador for the Banque du Liban Beirut Marathon which was held on Sunday (8 November), joined the Ambassador to the United Kingdom HE Hugo Shorter and several other dignitaries at the Service of Remembrance at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in central Beirut.

Radcliffe joined Ambassador Shorter and Australian Ambassador HE Glenn Miles as one of the ceremony’s three readers as she delivered John McCrae’s famous poem “In Flanders Fields”.

About 200 people attended the 30 minute ceremony, including several local veterans of the second world war and military attaches from more than a dozen countries.
