KINGSTON, Jamaica – Edino Steele once again proved to his Racers teammates that he is a genuine quarter miler. Again, at the 10th staging of the Camperdown Classic, Steele dismissed the challenges of Olympic Games 100m and 200m silver medallist Yohan Blake and Warren Weir, who was third in the Olympics 200m and second at the World Championships in 2013.
Steele, who timed the race perfectly, caught and moved away from Weir, who got out very fast, on the curve to take victory in 45.44 seconds. Allodin Fothergill took second in the heat and overall in 46.15secs. Blake ran on strong for third in 47.20 while Weir faded badly to finish in 47.53.
Peter Matthews 46.87 beat Riker Hylton 47.16, Mario Forsythe 47.20, Kemar Bailey-Cole 47.36 and Nicholas Maitland 47.72 in heat 2.
In heat 3, Delano Williams, the World Junior 200m champion, took the top spot in 47.51 over Keino Burrell 47.98 and Terrell Cutton 48.16 while heat 4 went to Carlton Cousins in 47.89 over Jason Young 48.39.
All the above mentioned athletes completed for Racers Track Club, along with Javarn Gallimore, who took heat 5 in 48.98.
Javon Francis of Lions Clubs won heat 8 in 46.91 while Lennox Williams of Manchester High was heat 7 winner in 48.22.
Also, Kerron Stewart 54.00 beats her Racers teammate Schillonie Calvert 54.13 in women's 400m
Earlier, Calabar's Michael O'Hara sent a strong signal to his rivals in the boys Class 1 100m. The World Youth 200m champion ran a quick 10.29 seconds to win the event. He had earlier watched as JeVaughn Minzie of Bagwalk ran 10.31 seconds.
Daniel Bailey, aslo trains at Racers, won the men's 100m in 10.15. The wind was over the allowed 2.0m/s limit.
Kimone Shaw of St. Jago ran 12.42 into a negative 3-5m/s wind to take the girls Class 3 100m.
Britney Dixon of Vere Strides topped the girls Class 3 800m in 2:14.02. Calabar ran 40.04 in the Class 1 boys 4x100m
