TALLINN, Estonia – TALLINN, Estonia – On the last day of the European U23 Championships in Tallinn, Italy won four gold medals to top the medal table with six gold medals (6-5-2). They finished ahead of Germany (6-4-2) and Czech Republic (4-1-0).

Andrea Dallavalle won the triple jump title with 17.05m ahead of France’s Enzo Hodebar with 16.99 PB. There were three gold medals on the track for Italy – Simone Barontini’s 800m victory (1:46.20), Gaia Sabbatini and Marta Zenoni took a one-two 1500m in 4:13.98 and 4:14.50, and Nadia Battocletti won the 5000m title in a hand-timed 15:37.4.

The Germans also had an excellent final day with three gold medals. They won the men’s 4x100m in a European U23 record of 38.70 and the women’s 4x100m in a championship record of 43.05, lowering their mark from 43.24 set in the heats. Andreas Bechmann was the other medal winner, taking the decathlon title with 8142 points from Sven Roosen (8056 points) and Norway’s Markus Rooth (7967 points).

Hungary’s Petra Farkas won a high-quality women’s long jump with 6.73m from Germany’s Merle Homeier (6.69m) and Brit Lucy Hadaway (6.63m). Finland’s Topias Laine won javelin gold with 81.67m from Portugal’s Leandro Ramos with 80.61m.

Anchored by Barbora Malikova, the Czechs won the women’s 4x400m title in 3:30.11 from France (3:30.33).
France also won the men’s 4x400m in 3:05.01 after initial winners the Netherlands were DQ’d.
