Kingston College’s (KC) athletes stared at Saturday’s Central Hurdles and Relays/GC Foster Field Events Meet in Angles, Spanish Town.
Wayne Pinnock and Ralford Mullings stood out for the North Street-based school, winners of Champs 20129.
Mullings of KC set two Class 1 records on the day. He threw 56.56m beat Romario Jackson’s discus 2019 mark of 48.44m and 17.50m in the shot put to erase Rhanique Henry’s 12.52 mark set last year.
Pinnock impressed in the Class 1 boys’ 110m hurdles with 13.76s. He beat Chadrick Brown old mark of 13.89, set back in 2016. Pinnock was the only one to break 14 seconds as second-place finisher Rhyme Christian of Clarendon College finished in 14,.13.
Other records on the day.
Holmwood boys ran 3:13.35 for a new record in the 4x400m relay, beating their old mark set last year of 3:13.78. Excelsior 3:13.88 finished second.
St. Jago’s Quaycian Davis ran 56.31 to beat the previous 400m girls’ Class 3 record mark of 56.65 set by Shannon Kalawan in 2013.
Devontie Archer of Excelsior ran 47.44 for a new Class 1 boys’ 400m record. Tyrese Taylor of Vere, 47.48, also went below Javon Francis’ previous record of 47.65, set in 2013.
Edwin Allen’s Damali Williams threw 42.30 to set a new Class 2 girls’ discus record. St. Jago’s Tafada Wright, 40.74m, also bettered the old mark 40.55.
Wright, however, left as the new record holder for the shot put, throwing 14.45m to erase the old mark of 13.34m. Edwin Allen’s Rochelle Solmon also went beyond the old mark with 13.61m.
In the javelin throw, Ashley Duffus of St. Catherine, thew 40.72m to erase her previous mark of 39.62, set in 2019.
Amelia Montique of Vere cleared 1.50 to take the Class 4 girls’ high jump and equalled the record of 1.50
Meanwhile, KC dominated the boys’ U20 400m hurdles, taking the top five spots. Shanthamoi Brown was the top boy with 53.06 while Rayon Campbell ended second with 53.16
In the relays, Holmwood won three of four 4x100s, Class 1 in 45.81 ahead of Edwin Allen 46.34; Class two in 45.59 over Edwin Allen 46.01 and Class 3 in 47.80, again beating Edwin Allen 47.89.
Holmwood also won the girls’ 4x400m in 3:40.94 while Edwin Allen took the 4x800m final in 9:10.70
St. Jago topped the Class 4 girls’ event in 47.75 ahead of Edwin Allen 49.23.
Excelsior swept the boys’ 4x100m events, taking Class 1 in 41.36, Class 2 in 43.16 and Class 3 in 46.42.
In the women’s 200m, Ronda Whyte, 24.73 finished ahead of her Sprintec team Dawnalee Loney, 25.00
Michael Sharp of GC Foster College won the men’s half-lap in 22.27 ahead of his teammate Javon Rollins, 22.37.
