Yohan Blake announces plans to retire from athletics after Paris 2024 Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Yohan Blake clocked a season best of 9.93s to finish just outside the medals and was very pleased with his performance, even though he admitted that he had some execution problems.

Blake who congratulated his training partner and friend, Usain, after he had won yet another gold medal in the 100m finals, said he was happy seeing Bolt crossing the line.

“Yea I’m happy, God has been good you know, I can’t complain, I have been working so hard and to be back into the Olympic, its been good. I just wanna say congrats to Usain, he is a true icon and a legend of the sport; he always push me to do better and I’m happy for him, you know and seeing him cross that line today I was so happy.”

After 2 years of constant injuries, Yohan is happy to be where he is now and thinks execution was his biggest problem today and may have caused him a spot on the medal podium. “I think I’m fit and I’m sharp, been doing a lot of speed work and I ran a season best which has been good. I’m in the 9 shape again so I’m happy; I can’t complain.

“My execution, as my coach always tell me and I could have been up in the medals, but I’m not sad I’m happy,” the 2011 World champion said.

Blake is set to compete again on Tuesday where he will be looking to book a spot in the Men’s 200m semi-finals and after, the relays.

“I’m looking forward to the 200m. I feel more confident going into the 200m as well, so I’m just looking forward for that and the relays,” Blake, a former junior star for Jamaica said.

Blake who was not deterred by the short time between the semi finals and the finals, as according to him, his coach has been training them for rounds, but added that the day just got the better of him.

The Rio Olympics 2016, which is set to be Bolt’s final Olympics and after which he will be passing the crown for both the 100m and 200m to training partner and friend, Yohan Blake.
Blake’s response to that is, “he said he is going to hand over the crown to me and I’m just happy and I can’t wait; I’m looking forward to go ahead with it.
