INDIANAPOLIS (USA): 89 athletes have been named on the USA team for the World Juniors, inform USATF. 8 individual medallists from the 2013 World Youths are included on the squad, as are 4 NCAA champions and 17 athletes with previous World Junior Championships experience. World junior 100m record holder Trayvon Bromell and World Youth 100m and 200m record holder Kaylin Whitney are the standout names on the squad. After placing 6th in the 1500m in 2012 as a 16 year old, Moscow finalist Mary Cain will race the 3000m in Eugene. Rising heptathlon star Kendell Williams will compete in the 100mH, the event in which she won bronze at World Youth level in 2011.
MOSCOW (RUS): The Russian squad for the World Juniors will have 28 athletes. Russian youth Danyil Lysenko will be a strong medal favourite in the high jump, having jumped 224 this year. Mikhail Akimenko, the European Junior bronze medallist, should also be a strong contender in the high jump. European Junior champion Alayna Lutkovskaya should challenge for the women’s pole vault gold. Other expected top contenders are; Roman Kondryatyev in the decathlon Nikolay Markov in the walk, Aleksey Khudyakov in the discus, Ilya Terentyev in the hammer, Yekaterina Starygina in the javelin, Yelizaveta Kolokolchikova in the heptathlon and Oksana Golyatkina in the walk.
KAUNAS (LTU): Lithuania is sending to World Juniors in Eugene 11 athletes, 6 girls and 5 boys. Among them 3 walkers, 2 girls and one boy.
ATHENS (GRE): Greece will have in Eugene 7 boys and 4 girls. National records were improved in junior category from them by walker Zaharias Tsamoudakis (42:01.41), 1500 m runner Anastasia-Panayiota Marinakou 4:14.66 and hammer thrower Iliana Korosidou 65.34.
