Seven records were broken on Tuesday’s (31 March) opening day of the 2015 Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships being staged at the National Stadium in Kingston.
UTech’s Elaine Thompson ran a personal best and record 11.09 to beat her teammate Chanice Bonner 11.44 to take gold in the women’s 100m.
In the 400m hurdles Janieve Russell, also of UTech, ran 55.83 to beat GC Foster’s College’s Rhonda Whyte.
Also, in the men’s 400m hurdles, Andre Clarke of GC Foster College ran 50.10 for a new record.
Simoya Campbell of UTech broke the 800m women’s record twice on the day, leaving it at 2:05.91 after the final.
The 3000m Steeplechase for women now has GC Foster College’s Danielle James, who did 11:44.85, as the new record holder.
Discus thrower Tara-Sue Barnett of GC Foster got a record 53.86m while Isheka Binns of UWI threw the javelin 46.60m for a new mark.
Andrew Fisher won the men's 100m in 10.18 ahead of Kemarley Brown, also of UTech, 10.22
UTech Knights and GC Foster College are tied for 1st place with 164 points entering Tuesday’s final day.
