Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) President Keith Wellington disclosed that Champs 2021 will not go ahead as scheduled in March.

In January, ISSA indicated that Champs 2021 would go ahead on March 23-27. However, they had a contingency date of May 4-8 due to the uncertainties around COVID-19.

“It, Champs 2021, will not be held on March 23-27,” Wellington said at a Sports Virtual Townhall hosted by TVJ.

May 4-8 was the alternative date, but that too is under consideration.

“We may be looking back, looking at the week before, because that date (May 4-8) is a World Athletics and JAAA designated meet date,” he said.

Jamaica International Invitational Meet is scheduled May 8 at the National Stadium.

Wellington said they are still working on staging Champs 2021. “We have had discussions with our stakeholders, and everyone is committed to doing everything within our powers to ensure it happens if it is safe to do so,” the ISSA president said.
