Asafa Powell, who was once the world’s fastest man, recalled Usain Bolt’s record breaking 100m feat at the Berlin 2009 World Championships (See race video below).
“Usain had a great race (in Berlin, 2009). It was a perfect race,” Powell told a media interaction organised on Friday (November 18) by Puma ahead of the Delhi half-marathon.
Powell held the 100m world record between 2005 and 2008 of 9.77 and 9.74 before Bolt first ran 9.72 and 9.69 in 2008. Bolt then lowered it to 9.58 in Berlin.
“I was in that race (in Germany). I was pretty much the best starter in the world and he was already ahead of me at the start. So, he had a great race. It’s going to be very hard for someone to come and match that run.”
“I would say it is likely to stand for a very long time,” Powell said of the current world record mark.
Bolt also ran 19.19 seconds in Berlin for the 200m world record.
