Changes to Athlete of the Year Eligibility Criteria

Athletics Australia has today announced plans to change the criteria for the Athlete of the Year Awards.

>

The change will see the Awards criteria now reflect a calendar year (e.g. January through December), instead of the former setup which presented Awards based on competition between May and the following April.

To allow for this change, and ensure performances in the latter half of last year are taken into account, Awards presented at the conclusion of 2012 will also include performances achieved between May 2011 and December 2012 (e.g. the 2011 Samsung Diamond League and IAAF World Championships).

The date of the 2012 Athlete of the Year Awards will be announced at a later time.

This change has been agreed to by the Athletics Australia Board of Directors, and is supported by Athletics Australia Chief Executive Dallas O'Brien.
