After his 100m victory at the Adidas Grand Prix on 11 June, where he upstaged his training partner Tyson Gay, Mullings told trackalerts.com "I don't care what anyone says about Asafa not making the team, I have faith that he will.
Mullings continued: "He was the first one to actually go out there and let Jamaicans know that they can run 9.70 seconds."
The 28-year-old Mulling who will be vying for a spot on the plane to the World Championships in August, also believes that the Jamaican Nationals will be very challenging, "I know at Trials its going to take 9.70 to win," he said.
Mullings along with training mate Nickel Ashemeade, emerged as two of the new faces in a string of top class sprinters to come out of Jamaica in recent times.
With only three spots to fill for the well sought-after, Jamaican, 100m team to Daegu and the likes of Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Nesta Carter, and Michael Frater all running decent times, the National Championship should be filled with a lot of suspense and drama. Usain Bolt as the defending champion has a bye and will be the fourth Jamaican for the event in Daegu.
