Inaugural Howard Aris Memorial/Gibson Relays Lecture set for Feb 23

The inaugural Howard Aris Memorial/ Gibson Relays Lecture, hosted by the Organizing Committee of the 36th Gibson Relays, is scheduled for the G C Foster College beginning at 7:00p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012. The Lecture will be of particular interest to athletic coaches, trainers, sports writers, sports commentators, mass communications students, dieticians, nutritionists, practising athletes, and all persons interested in fitness and nutrition, both professionally and for recreation. Entry to the Lecture is free.

Staged in honour of the late JAAA President and founding-member of the Gibson Relays Committee Member, the Lecture will this year welcome two visiting experts who will speak to sports journalism and diet and nutrition for athletes in all sports disciplines.

The Journalism segment will be conducted by one of television's foremost track and field analyst, Emmy Award-winning broadcaster with ESPN and ESPN2— Larry

Rawson. He has been covering sporting events since 1986 specifically the US Olympic Festivals, US Olympic Track and Field Trials, NCAA Track and Field Championships; the New York and Boston Marathon and many other major international Events.

He has worked on ESPN SportsCentre and NBC Radio as a reporter for the 1996 Olympic Games. Craig Masback – CEO of Track and Field in the US, gave Mr. Rawson the title "the voice of track and field" and for the past several years he has also been the "voice" of the Boston Marathon, covering that prestigious event on both radio and television for several media entities including ESPN.

Rawson was a member of the 1988 Millrose Games that won a New York Broadcasters' Association Emmy for Outstanding Live Sports. A Graduate of Boston College, he holds BSc degrees in Business and English, and has run the mile in 4.07

The Nutrition segment of this eagerly anticipated Howard Aris Memorial Lecture will be covered by highly respected licensed Nutritionist and Dietician Sandra Ortiz Rosado.

Rosado's 24 years experience includes being host of Television Health Segment on Puerto Rico's Univision, called "Sin Excusas "Tu Manana"; she is a Nutritional Marketing Consultant for Nutritional Marketing & Dietetics Consulting; she also is host for another television programme on Channel 7 in Puerto Rico called Nutrition Segment for Runners & Walkers.

An active member of PepsiCo Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Council, and the Gatorade Sports Science Institute she is in charge of developing, coordinating and implementing all nutritional and marketing activities. She is the driving force behind the development of training seminars, promotions for Pepsico. She actively participates in product approval and reviews and approves all copy for advertising and other media material in order to ensure accuracy of all of the Pepsico Products, including Gatorade.

The 36th staging of the Gibson Relays is scheduled to start at 9:30a.m on Saturday, February 25, 2012 inside the National Stadium.
