Jodeen WilliamsJodeen WilliamsKINGSTON, Jamaica - Jodeen Williams of St. Mary High was the star at the Jamaica National-sponsored Eastern Athletics Championships setting records in the girls Class 1 100m, 200m and 400m events at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

Howevr, Oberlin High athletes that left the National Stadium with the biggest smiles after taking the overall by a whisker over Buff Bay High.

Although she did not get the overall champion girl's award, Williams' performances over the two days, she ran a record 12.01 to take the Class 1 100m final, easing the old mark of 12.12 which Janika Martell (formerly of St Mary's Technical) set in 2000.

On Monday Williams ran 55.75 to beat the old mark of 57.54 set by former Tacky High athlete Christine Day, returned on Tuesday to lower that mark to 54.38. As if she was not satisfied, the 18-year-old stopped the 200m clock in 23.96 to lower the mark of 24.80 she did in the semi-finals on Monday. And she was not done; she ran an impressive third leg for St. Mary High to come from nowhere to take the girls' 4x400m open event in 3:56.44, another record with her name now attached.

However, none of that could stop Oberlin from taking their 16th title, even though it was by 2-and-a-half points. In the end, Oberlin, who won the final event of the day, the boys 4x400m, finished on 590 points, just ahead of Buff Bay, who ended on 587.5 points.
