At the completion of the Rio Olympics Caribbean women continued to be featured prominently on the statistics table.

Merlene Ottey (JAM/SLO) remains the top medalist with nine medals (three silver, six bronze) along with Allyson Felix.

Veronica Campbell-Brown (JAM) moved up to eight (three gold, three silver, two bronze) with the silver she won in the 4x100m, while Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is now at six (two gold, three, one bronze) with her silver (4x100m) and bronze (100m). Ottey has competed in a record seven Olympic Games, the most finals and rounds. She continues to hold the title as the oldest medallist in any event when she anchored Jamaica’s 4x100m to silver in 2000 at 40 years 143 days. Ottey is also the oldest medallist and competitor in the 100m and 200m sprints.

Ottey and Fraser-Pryce head the medal winners in the women’s 100m with three each.

Campbell-Brown became the top medallist in the 4x100m, collecting her fourth while Novlene Williams-Mills (JAM) leads the way with four in the women’s 4x400m.

Pauline Davis-Thompson (BAH) remains the oldest champion in the 200m with her golden run in 2000 while Levern Eve (BAH) is the eldest competitor in the women’s javelin and Chandra Sturrup (BAH) in the women’s 4x100m. Davis-Thompson and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie (BAH) are second only to Ottey on the number of rounds contested (53 to 33).

Heather Gooding (BAR) is the youngest competitor ever in the women’s 4x400m at 17 years 173 days. That record is not likely to be around for a very long time as the IAAF has now instituted a lower age limit of 16 years for all athletes.
