Stephanie Hightower, president of USA Track and Field, has been appointed Vice President of NACAC.
Hightower, who was voted in as IAAF Council Member in August, took on the North America, Central America and the Caribbean (NACAC) post, which Noel Lynch did not accept.
According to a NACAC release, “Since Mr. Noel Lynch did not accept the Vice President temporary position, I would like to inform you, on behalf of the NACAC Executive Council, and in compliance with Rule 6 H ii and 6 C from the NACAC Constitution, that unanimously we appointed Ms. Hightower (USA), as our new Vice President in our meeting in Pointe-Ville, Haiti on November 7th, 2015.”
The release, which came under the signature of Prof. Candido Velez, also added, “according to the Constitution, in our next Ordinary Congress in 2017, we will have elections for a permanent NACAC Vice President.”
Hightower was elected USATF President in 2008 and also served as Vice Chairman of the Board.
Hightower is CEO of the Columbus Urban League, the first woman to hold the position, and previously was Vice President for Institutional Advancement for the Columbus College of Art & Design.
A former world-class hurdler, Hightower has served USATF in countless capacities, beginning with USATF’s Athletes Advisory Committee and including as USATF women's track & field chair and as team leader, team manager and chef de mission for Team USA at international competitions. During her athletic career, she was named to the roster of 12 national teams, held American and world records in the hurdles, and was a member of the 1980 Olympic Team in the 100m hurdles.
