Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin could face-off for the first time in Kingston on May 9. The Occasion is the Jamaica International Invitational Meet.

The organizers could not confirm the event, but indications are both are likely to face the starter in the 100m.

Powell won only three of 12 clashes against Gatlin dating back to 2004.

Powell, who won bronze medals at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships, will be looking upstage Gatlin, last year’s fastest man.

Gatlin, who has a personal best of 9.77, won the Olympic Games 100m title in Athens 2004 and bronze in London 2012. He also won silver in the 200m behind then training partner Shawn Carwford in Athens.

Nesta Carter is also exected to be in the field.
