Sub-10 king Asafa Powell is in record shape ahead of Saturday’s (May 2) International Meeting Region de Guadeloupe.

Powell, who arrived in Guadeloupe on Wednesday for the meet, not only wants to break the 10 seconds barrier, but puts himself atop the 2015 chart.

“I am really expecting to run a good time and to put myself somewhere on top of the chart for the season,” he told TrackAlerts.Com from the La Creole Beach Hotel and Spa on Friday (1 May).

American Ivory Williams ran 10.09 for the meet record in 2008 while Trinidad & Tobago’s Keston Bledman has the world leading time of 10.01.

“Being who I am and I have been running fast for years, I definitely would want to open with something below 10secs. Anything below 10 I would be satisfied,” he said while adding, “Hopefully if I run as how I feel in training, it will be sub-9.9.”

Powell, who has broken the 10-second barrier a record 84 times, said he is ready for his first 100m of the season, which will include the World Championships in Beijing, China in August.

“I have worked hard through the background season, but it’s early in the season, but definitely it’s the first one I want to post a good time to see where I am at in training,” said the London Olympic Games and Berlin World Championships gold medallists.

Powell faces St. Kitts and Nevis’ Kim Collins, the 2003 World 100m champion, and Jamaican Winston Barnes in the event on Saturday.

Physically, Powell said, “I am in good shape”
