The 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist, Luguelin Santos, has safely arrived in Montreal, Canada after more than 30 hours of travel, due to poor weather conditions on the east coast of the United States.
Luguelin, along with his coach Jose Rubio, who's flight were cancelled upon landing in Philadelphia to Montreal in reasons of an Arctic Vortex.
Santos and Rubio were advised by Sprint Management travel specialist Sandro DiGirolamo of Groupe Ideal to have their names added to the wait list for the last flight out of the airport. To their surprise, they were the last two passengers to board the small plane of 50 people, as 2 people did not make the connection, otherwise they would have been stranded in Pennsylvania until Friday.
Santos, who trains in both Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic decided to come to Montreal to train for three weeks to prepare for the 2014 Indoor Season, as there are no indoor tracks within his country.
"I felt it was important to me in my preparation to train on an indoor track, it's not the same as an outdoor track and I want to challenge for a medal in Sopot at the World Championships"
Santos, who at the young age of 20, already has an Olympic Silver, a World outdoor bronze and a Pan-Am Silver to his name, and he is looking to add the Gold to his collection.
"Luguelin is fit, but we are going to be working specifically on attacking the 200m track to put him in a position that he can set a new national record and personal best by the end of the 2014 indoor season" said Jose Rubio, who's been working with Luguelin since he emerged onto the circuit in 2011.
"We have been working very closely with McGill University here in Montreal. and head coach Dennis Barrett has allowed us to add an invitational 300m race on January 25th into his program where Luguelin will test out his legs, as a final prep before we head over to Sweden" said his Montreal-based agent Kris Mychasiw.
All in all, Luguelin along with his coach will not only be taking part in an intensive 3 week training camp, but will also enjoy the Canadian Winter and take in a few events while in Montreal. A few items include: A Montreal Canadians Game, A boxing match between Former WBC/IBF Champion Jean Pascal and Lucian Butte and experience some Quebec Culture at a Cabane a Sucre.
