Dr. Warren Blake, president of the JAAA, said his organisation is waiting for the final date of entry to release Jamaica’s team to Beijing.

According to Dr. Blake, “the team will be announced on the 10th, which is the final date for entries allowed by the IAAF.”

Dr. Blake said the reason for this is that, “this weekend is the NACAC Senior Championships in Costa Rica and a number of our athletes will be given the opportunity to make standards even at that time.”??“I will just give you one example, our hammer thrower who is trying to make the team…he is very close to achieve the required standard … so you can’t name a team and leave out some of the potential athletes,” he said.

Also attempting to get the qualifying mark, is Canniggia Raynor, who won the men’s hammer at the Jamaica Trials, along with female winner Daina Levy and Natalie Grant, the second place finisher.

Kerron Stewart, who is down for the 200m, can also qualify, if she wins her event, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce decide to run only the 100m at World Championships.

The 2015 NACAC Senior Championships will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from August 07 – 09.

Victor Lopez, president of NACAC, said event winners will advance to the World Championships in Beijing, China, once they have achieved the the World Championships qualifying A standard.
