BEIJING, China – Jamaica’s Danielle Williams won her semifinals heat in the 100 metres hurdles at the World Championships here on Friday.

With one of the overall favourite of the event, Dawn Harper-Nelson of the United States of America crashing into the second hurdle and failing to finish, Williams out dipped the former’s compatriot Sharika Nelvis, after both had raced side by side for most of the event.

Williams won in 12.58 seconds with Nelvis doing 12.59 and Alina Talay of Belarus 12.70 for third.

In the second semifinals heat Kimberly Laing finished fifth in 13:00 seconds after starting well but lost her rhythm and was passed. Another American was also eliminated as Kendra Harrison false started.

The race was won by Tiffany Porter of Great Britain who did 12.62 as Cindy Roleder of Germany was second in 12.79 and Noemi Zbaren of Switzerland third in 12.91.

Shermaine Williams, sister of Danielle, failed to give up in her semifinals heat and came through strongly at the end to finish second in 12.86 seconds, as Brianna Rollins of the United States of America won in 12.71. Anne Zagre of Belarus was third in 12.88.
