Corinaldi Avenue won the 2016 JPS-sponsored Western Primary Schools’ Athletics Championships held at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on June 11.

The team tallied 217 points to beat newcomers Black River of St. Elizabeth for the overall title. Black River ended second with 200 points while Howard Cooke Primary finished third on 165.

Barracks Road 143, Wakefield 117, Catherine Hall 85, Hague 84, Enfield 82, Maldon 59 and Ducans 48 rounded off the top 10 teams.

Corinaldi also won the male and female sections with 110 and 107 respectively. Black River finished second in the female section with 110 points and Howard Cooke 100.

On the male side, Barracks Road and Black River were tied for second with 90 points.

Howard Cooke’s pair of Shenequa Vassell and Carleta Bernard were the sprint stars.

Bernard won the Class 2 girls’ sprint double. She ran a record 13.06 in the 100m and 27.07 in the 200m.

Vassell topped the Trackalerts.com’s Class 1 girls’ 100m final in 13.06 and 200m in 26.65.

Black River’s Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, who was a star at Primary Champs, won the Class 1 boys’ 100m final in a record 12.44.

Black River won both 4x400m titles, the girls in 4:53.95 and boys in 4:27.76.

Corinaldi Avenue topped the Trackalerts.com’s sponsored boys’ 4x100m Class 4 final in 63.40 to beat Wakefield 64.67.
