Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are Trackalerts.com Caribbean athletes of 2015.
Trackalerts.com fans voted over the last two weeks for their top male and female athletes of the year.
Bolt, who won three gold medals in Beijing, dominated the men’s poll, finishing with 49 of 80 votes casted during the two weeks of poll. He accounted for 61 per cent of the votes.
Surprisingly, Asafa Powell, who left Beijing without an individual medal, was the second best Caribbean male athlete of 2015. Powell, who helped Jamaica to gold in the 4x100m, got 11 votes or 14 per cent.
Odaine Richards, who won Jamaica’s first shot put medal (bronze) at the World Championships level, was third with 10 votes (13%) and Hansle Parchment, the silver medal winner in the 110m hurdles, 5 votes (6%).
Kirani James of Grenada, the 400m bronze medallist, finished with 3 votes (4%), Bahamians Jeffery Gibson and Chris Brown one vote each.
In the female section, Fraser-Pryce, who won her third World Championships 100m title, got 83 votes or 31 per cent.
Novlene Williams-Mills, who anchored Jamaica to a surprise 4x400m win at the Beijing World Championships, finished second with 62 votes or 23 per cent.
Elaine Thompson, also of Jamaica, the 200m silver medal winner, picked up 39 votes or 14 percent while her teammate and 100m hurdles champion Daniel Williams ended with 29 votes or 11 per cent.
Veronica Campbell-Brown with 21 votes (8%), Jamaica’s 400m bronze medal winner Shericka Jackson with 17 votes (6%) and Pan Am Games 100m champion Sherone Simpson 5 votes (2%) were also included in the poll.
Bahamian 400m silver medallist Shaunae Miller got 8 votes or 3% while Trinidad and Tobago’s pair of Michelle-Lee Ahye and Khalifa St Fort finished with 5 and 2 votes respectively.
