CLERMONT, USA – Nickel Ashmeade was in sparkling form over the weekend at the NTC Pure Athletics Spring Invitational.
Ashmeade posted 20.07 (+0.2m/s wind) to win the men’s 200m.
One of Ashmeade’s main global rivals, Alonso Edward of Panama, 20.11 (+1.2m/s wind), topped another heat ahead of Briton James Ellington, 20.31 Personal best.
Earlier in the 100m, Ashmeade posted a fast 10.03 in the heats (+1.6m/s wind) to beat Ellington, 10.15.
Second fastest time of the day was USA’s Jeff Demps, 10.06 (+1.7m/s wind) in his heat.
In the final, the winner was Adrian Griffith of Bahamas in 10.12 (+1.1m/s wind) PB ahead of Briton Danny Talbot, 10.15 and Dominican Republic sprinter, Yancarlos Martinez, 10.15.
Jamaican star Veronica Campbell-Brown won the 200m in 22.29 (+0.5m/s wind) ahead of Americans Jo Atkins, 22.58 and Shalonda Solomon, 22.69.
In B race American Tiffany Townsend 22.69 (+1.8) was the fastest.
Earlier, Campbell-Brown was disqualified in the 100m heats. Tori Bowie topped the final in 11.00 (0.0m/s wind) ahead of Tiffany Townsend and 400m World leader Shaunae Miller, both tied for second in 11.19. It was a personal best for Miller.
In other events, Briton Dwayne Cowan improved to 46.17 to win the 400m, American Ronnie Ash topped the 110m hurdles in 13.33 (+0.4) over Ronald Forbes’ national record for Cayman Islands 13.36.
Women hurdles wind-aided 12.83 (+2.5m/s wind) by Candice Price with Canadian Nikkita Holder second 12.86.
