KINGSTON: World and Olympics 400m silver medalist, Shericka Williams, heads a list of young sports stars nominated for the Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence.
Williams, who won silver in the 400m at the Beijing Olympics and repeated at the World Championships in Berlin, is listed among club and Jamaica teammates Kaliese Spencer, who was fourth in the World Championships 400m hurdles, and Olympics sprint relay gold medalist Nesta Carter.
The track & field trio is up against West Indies cricketer Chadwick Walton, and a team – (Shannon March, Tashna Smith-Edwards and Michelle Ann Gabbadon), in the area of Sports for the award to be presented on Sunday, December 6, at Emancipation Park, in Kingston.
The Prime Minister’s Youth Award is the highest honour bestowed on Jamaicans between 15 and 24 years of age, who have achieved eminent national and international distinction in the categories of sports, youth in service, the arts and culture, academics, agriculture, leadership, journalism, international achievement and entrepreneurship.

BOLT HAS GOTTEN HIS, AND THEN SOME. WE HAVE TO SPREAD THE ACCOLADES AROUND, ALL OUR ATHLETES HAVE GIVEN STELLAR PERFORMANCES IN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. I AM HAPPY THAT THESE THREE ARE GOING TO BE HONOURED. ITS A GOOD THING!!!
