Priscilla Lopes-Schliep ... wins three awards at Athletics Canada Awards Gala
VANCOUVER; Canada: The Vancouver Delta Airport Hotel played host on Saturday tonight to the 2009 Athletics Canada Awards Gala where World Silver Medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep ran away with all three awards she was nominated for.
After a career year, that saw her set a new personal best of 12.49 at the Golden League Memorial Van Dame and winning the Silver Medal at the IAAF World Championships, Lopes-Schliep was honored by topping all three categories – Overall Athlete of the Year, Performance of the Year and Track Athlete of the year.
“I couldn’t be any happier,” was her first words after collected her awards.
“I was hoping to win one of the three awards, I was up against some great athletes, but to walk away with all three is a dream come true and the perfect way to end off my 2009 season.” Lopes-Schliep said.
Lopes-Schliep’s coach, Anthony McClearly of Elite Edge Track and field, won Coach of the year. Earlier in the day, McClearly was also recognized by the Canadian Coaching Association as a Petro Canada Coach of the year.
“I am very happy that Anthony won both awards, he works very hard with me and without all of his support and guidance, all of my successes would have not been possible, next year we are targeting the Canadian Record and World Indoors Gold.” Lopes-Schliep said as she was leaving the hotel.
