KINGSTON: Former World 100m champion, American Lauryn Williams, says she would train in Jamaica if given the chance.
Williams, who won the World 100m title in Helsinki, 2005, said she would be glad to take advantage of any opportunities in Jamaica.
“If someone extend the invitation and the training facilities are opened up to me I would definitely opt to come to Jamaica, train and take advantage of any opportunities here … I train in Miami Florida so the weather is not much different, it is almost the same…
Jamaica has only two world class track & field clubs, mainly, MVP with stars like Asafa Powell, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Melaine Walker, Shericka Williams, Michael Frater, Nesta Carter, Kaliese Spencer, Anniesha McLaughin and Germaine Mason; whilst Racers boasts stars like Usain Bolt, Daniel Bailey, Yohan Blake, Rosemarie Whyte, Schillonie Calvert and Simeon Williamson.
Williams also said there is no hard feeling against Jamaican athletes, as “I know the Jamaicans want to beat the Americans and the Americans want to beat the Jamaicans … this is track & field and you know it has to be about something bigger than sport at the end of the day….”
