Three-time World Championships 200 metres champion Allyson Felix says she will run more 400m races in 2010, especially since there’s no major Championships.

Felix, who has won the half lap event at the last three words – Helsinki (05), Osaka (07) and Berlin (09) – has a personal best of 49.70 over the 400m mark.

During the past season, Felix had times of 50.75 (Doha, May 8), 50.50 (New York, May 30), 50.94 (Roma, Jul 10), and 49.83 (Zurich, Aug 28).

However, Felix is looking to run more one-lap races in the upcoming season.

“I’m looking forward to getting more experience in the 400m this (coming) year being that there is no major championship,” said Felix in her online IAAF diary.

“I’m excited to see what my results will be,” added Felix.

As she prepares for the new season, two-time Olympic 200m silver medallist, Felix says she’s looking forward to resume training this week.

“I’m going to begin training the first week of November,” she added while saying she enjoyed her time off.

“I feel like I have had a good break with lots of fun and I’m excited about getting into training. My break is actually a little shorter this year because I decided to run to the end of September.

Will this be just another happy ending story? No way, this might just be the catalyst the womens quarter needs to topple one of the oldest track records in the books. 47.60 secs has firmly stood it’s ground quite comfortably over the last few decades and is only being presently threatened by Sanya.
Felix on the other hand is a terrific one-lap contender who chooses the half-lap as her pet event. Having her challenge Richards for a complete season is bound to see them dip below the 48 sec barrier or possibly quite close.

It’s a shame that this 47.60 WR by Marita Koch (former East Germany) is still in the record books. It is a proven fact that she was given large doses of anabolic steroids from 1981 through 1984 (see Brigitte Berendonk: Doping – Von der Forschung zum Betrug, 1991/1992). Beating a world record is an honourable goal, but in this case it bodes ill for sure.

I wonder why after the truth was known to the world the athletic governing body still keep the tainted times on their book. It probably cost the female athletes money and interest from the fans. The closer an athlete is to the world record , it’s the more fan appeal he or she gets and the more apperance fees he or she commands. Presently only the male athletes consistently command huge apperance fees.
