KINGSTON: Athletics sensation Usain Bolt – triple world and Olympic Champion – will return to regular training next week as he starts his preparation for the 2010 season.

The track and field superstar will feature in seven races in the new IAAF Diamond League next season, that according to coach Mills, will be at the top of their agenda.

“The Diamond League is our major project next year, in which he’ll be running seven races between the 100 and 200 meters, that’s what we are going to be focusing on. Competing in the Diamond League is our number one priority we’ll then see how the rest of the season develops and we’ll take it from there.

He said what happened in 2010 will gear towards 2011, saying “Whatever we do will have a direct bearing on the future”

Mills, however, did not say which seven of the 14 Diamond League meets Bolt will run.

The IAAF Diamond League currently includes the following meetings:

• Weltklasse Zurich (SUI)
• Aviva London Grand Prix (GBR)
• Aviva British Grand Prix (GBR)
• Areva (Paris/FRA)
• Golden Gala Rome (ITA)
• Memorial Van Damme (Brussels/BEL)
• Athletissima (Lausanne/SUI)
• ExxonMobil Bislett Games (Oslo/NOR)
• DN Galan (Stockholm/SWE)
• Herculis (Monaco)
• Doha Athletic Super Grand Prix (QAT)
• Reebok Grand Prix (New York/USA)
• Prefontaine Classic (Eugene/USA)
• China Golden Grand Prix (Shanghai/CHN)

Meanwhile, the triple world record holder who has had an extremely busy schedule since cutting short the 2009 season to return home to rest, is now in Africa and is due back home next week when coach Glen Mills is expecting him to show up for training.

“We are expecting Usain to start training when he returns from Kenya on the first week in November,” he said.

Because track and field is not big in the United States as it is in Europe, I hope he plans to run BOTH races in the United States: one on the East Coast the other on the West Coast…Bolt, let your European fans know which Europeans races you plan to run.. In this dreadful economy, folks need to make plans….
